In class teaching for Tourism and Travel - Adventure & Ecotourism mostly occurs in Room C215 of the Shuniah Building. Our lab was upgraded this past summer and now has screamer computers and an advanced overhead computer display system.

In our travel lab the student is provided with hands-on training in the live Galileo Canada computerized reservations system. Here students create airline bookings, issue automated tickets, as well as research pertinent information related to airline and travel agency operations. Each computer is connected to the Internet for our tourism students.
Our Tourism Headquarters Office is set up with outbound (sun vacations) and inbound (local packages) travel brochures which are available to students and faculty.

The Nor'west Outdoor Centre is the outdoor education facility that the Tourism & Travel-Adventure & Ecotourism will be utilizing in part of the delivery of the 'Adventure Trends & Specialties' course in the 3rd semester. The facility is located within 10 minutes of downtown, Thunder Bay and is situated amongst the Nor'wester mountain range. Our students will have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of programs and activities that include the following:

Northwestern Ontario is a renowned four-season destination, providing a ready-made environment for practical learning. Located 160km west of Thunder Bay lies Turtle River Provincial Park. This park is a paradise for canoeists, wildlife watchers, and nature photographers. Found within the park is the gem, White Otter Castle". This 'outdoor classroom' is an ideal setting for studies in the fastest growing sector of the tourism industry - eco and adventure tourism. Orientation commences almost immediately following the beginning of the academic year. Part of orientation is a canoe trip.

The Thunder Bay Airport has been utilized as a facility to host terminal and airline tours for the Tourism & Travel - Adventure & Ecotourism students. Some areas visited have been: control tower, Flight Service, Security area, baggage make-up, ramp, and check-in.

ACE - Aviation Centre of Excellence

Aviation Centre of Excellence  

Our new, 59,000 square foot, Aviation Centre of Excellence (ACE) located at the Thunder Bay International Airport opened for classes in the Fall of 2003. The star attraction at ACEs is the DC-9 aircraft donated by Air Canada. We plan to utilize the aircraft for Flight Attendant training.

Established in 1997, WILD Team Building & Canoe Adventures has continually expanded and improved it's programming to meet the ever changing needs of their clients. Based in Sunshine, near the capital of Northwestern Ontario, Thunder Bay, they are in the heart of a great variety of wilderness areas that provide some of Canada's greatest canoe and kayak expedition experiences. Their large variety of programs are designed to encourage people of all interests to get involved in the world of canoeing and outdoor adventure. Many Confederation College students from a number of different programs have certified with Wild Team Building in both kayak and canoe courses.
